An App Store for the Lab: Launching SpectroWorks™ Apps at INNOVATE LABS

On 10 November 2026, Aalborg University officially opens INNOVATE LABS in Aalborg, Denmark —often dubbed the Winterfell of Denmark. Spanning 3,400 m² of specialized laboratories and testing facilities, this hub is built to drive cross-disciplinary innovation, student entrepreneurship, and commercial growth across North Jutland.

It is also the launchpad for the SpectroWorks™ App Store.

The Shared Lab Bottleneck

Shared research facilities bring together diverse teams—from academic biochemists and food scientists to deep-tech industrial startups—all sharing the same workspace and core analytical equipment.

Yet, analytical instrumentation has not kept pace with the shared-economy model. In most laboratories today:

  • Every new sample type requires a completely custom protocol or method development.
  • Running specialized assays frequently demands dedicated, expensive secondary instruments.
  • Valuable specialist hours are consumed by routine calibrations, baseline corrections, and repetitive setup tasks.

Instead of instrument flexibility driving discovery, hardware fragmentation slows researchers down.

From Light to Insight: One UV-Vis Instrument, Infinite Applications

The SpectroWorks™ App Store transforms standard, benchtop UV-Vis spectrophotometers into modular, multi-application platforms.

Rather than reconfiguring hardware or purchasing dedicated single-use instruments, researchers can simply open the SpectroWorks™ interface, select an application, follow guided steps, and generate instant, calibrated data.

This workflow is enabled by Alontia’s proprietary Sentaon™ photonic technology integrated directly inside the SpectroCuvette™. By embedding micro-optical and photonic intelligence at the point of measurement, standard absorption readings are elevated into multidimensional analytical data across sectors:

  • Life Sciences & Biopharma: Direct DNA, RNA, and protein quantification, along with cell density and OD600 monitoring.
  • Particle Characterization: Hydrodynamic particle size analysis without switching to dedicated dynamic light scattering (DLS) setups.
  • Food, Beverage & Agriculture: Rapid screening of sugars, organic acids, and lipid/oil composition.
  • Materials & Chemical Manufacturing: Real-time purity checks, chemical kinetics, and quality assurance.

The Flywheel: Every Measurement Strengthens the Ecosystem

There is a reason we invoke Winterfell: the North remembers.

SpectroWorks™ is built on a data flywheel. Every calibrated measurement taken on the platform can help refine and train predictive algorithms. Over time, validated models can be packaged into standalone applications and shared across the network.

A protocol developed by a materials researcher in Aalborg can become a guided, one-click assay used by an agritech startup on the other side of the globe.
